Popular Fish for the Aquarium
The Neon Tetra is one of the most popular fish in the aquarium hobby due to its awesome red and blue colors and how easy they are to take care of. Its peaceful attitude and simple dietary requirements make the Neon Tetra an excellent beginner fish. It is such a popular fish that around 2 million are sold in the US each month with the vast majority of being bred in captivity.
Colorful Aquarium Fish
The first thing everyone is drawn to is their vibrant colored stripes. Neons have a bright blue line that stretches from one head of the fish to almost the tail. To beautifully contrast the blue color, they also have a red stripe that runs from the middle of their body down to the tail fin. This bright iridescence helps the fish locate each other in murky water conditions. They can grow up to 2.5 inches long but the average size is around 1 to 1.5 inches, with females being slightly smaller.
Great Community Tank Fish
They are a small, non-aggressive, community fish and spend most of their time swimming in the middle of the aquarium. These fish thrive when kept in schools with at least 6 fish but the more the merrier. They are peaceful, non-aggressive fish which can make fantastic additions to most community aquariums.
